In the late 18th and early 19th century a popular form of entertainment was showing lantern or glass slides. The Eagles Mere Museum is very fortunate to have a collection of some of these slides that were created by Dr. Horace McFarland, who was an environmentalist as well as a writer, photographer, business man and rosarian. Many of the slides are in color and show not only the Eagles Mere hotels, but also waterfalls, the lake, the beach, flora and fauna, and many early cottages in Eagles Mere Park. On July 22 at 7 p.m. at the DeWire Center in Eagles Mere, Pa, Barbara James will give a slide presentation of this work at the DeWire Center at the intersection of LaPorte and Allegheny Avenues in Eagles Mere. Donation is $5; all are welcome.
