Loyalsock State Forest is named for the Loyalsock Creek, a scenic freestone stream that winds through the heart of its 114,552 acres.

Recreational opportunities include snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, horseback riding, hiking, hunting and fishing. In addition to many shorter local trails, 33 miles of the Loyalsock Trail travel through this forest.

The trail parallels the creek, mostly following ridges, but at times passing mountain streams, waterfalls, lakes, and ponds. Trails to suit all hiking abilities. Trails within the forest are open to mountain biking and horseback riding. Most trails are kept clear over the summer. Primitive campers spending no more than one night at a campsite typically do not need a camping permit, with certain exceptions.
