The House is thought to have been built in the mid 1780s for the James Smith family. In 1794 the 600 acres were purchased by the Skinner family. After changing hands several times as well as being divided into smaller lots the House was purchased by the Lacey’s. Paul Lacey and two more generations of his family owned the house until 1940. The Morrison’s bought the house in 1944 and members of their family were the last to live in the house until 1971.The Laceyville Area Historical Society was formed and has taken care of the property ever since.
