About the Race

This race was started in 2007 in memory of Damon Young. Damon passed away from kidney cancer in 2006 at 24 years old. He loved nature and spent countless hours exploring the land where he grew up. He hoped to have a yearly race in his memory to raise money for a scholarship fund that would benefit Tunkhannock High School graduating seniors. We’re so excited to be hosting this race on the land Damon loved so much!

Course Description

Dirt Roads, Fields, and Trails! The start and finish will be at the Young Family property in Centermoreland. The goal is to have the race enjoy the trails on the Young’s property. The races will all begin with the same downhill start. After 1/4 mile make a right turn at the bottom of an old horse pasture. The course then travels along a mowed grass path through fields on the Young’s property. After about a mile of grass fields the course enters back onto the dirt road for a half mile. The 5k course then explores roughly a mile of trails through the woods on the property before heading back to the finish line on the dirt road. The 10k splits from the 5k course, but it too continues to explore trails through the woods and fields. After around 4 miles in the trees it’s time to head back to the finish line on the dirt road. There are plenty of climbs and descents to have a fun time on this course. Be sure to enjoy the views as you pass by on race day!

The Half Marathon will be 2 loops of the 10k course.

Depending on whose watch you believe, there’s somewhere between 750-850 feet of climbing each 10k lap. The 1/2 Marathon will have anywhere from 1500-1700 of climbing! It will be a fun race for the beginner trail enthusiast or even a seasoned trail runner!

Half Marathon

Excited for the 2nd year with the Half Marathon distance! The Half Marathon will be a 2 lap race, following the 10k course for 2 loops! There will be 2 water only stations as well as 3 fully stocked aid stations. The fully stocked aid stations will have various fruits, pretzels, chips, candies, water, soda and maybe a few other treats! Water stations will be at miles 1.5 and 8. The fully stocked aid stations will be at roughly miles 3.5, 6.5, and mile 10.

2 Mile Fun Walk

You will NOT get a bib number! The 2 mile fun walk will NOT be timed or have awards. The walk follows Pine Ridge Road to the walker’s turnaround at the end of the road, which is about a mile. This is the perfect course if you plan on pushing your little ones in your stroller or aren’t looking for a trail walk!
