Applications for vendors and donors can be requested at All proceeds benefit horse-assisted therapy for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Equines For Freedom began from a passionate desire to help our military past and present recover from PTSD, regardless of the source of trauma. Scientific studies have shown EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) as the most effective treatment for PTSD. The horse is an integral part of treatment because horses are prey animals and therefore are extremely alert and sensitive to the emotions of those around them. Clients learn to identify their own emotional state by observing the horse’s reactions. The horse also helps the client stay grounded as they process past traumas. However, we know there are heroes in our community who also experience trauma and may not have military experience. So we have expanded our services with new programs. Of course all our programs are horse assisted and incorporate a mental health therapist experienced in trauma therapy, an equine specialist and one or more horses. Since the Fall of 2018 we have started to treat caregivers for our clients in a group setting. We have also started individual PTSD treatment for First Responders. We have shared these available resources with local Police, Fire and Ambulance Personnel. We have separate funding for each program so donors who have a preference can elect which group benefits. Please see our facebook page or website for more information.
