Who says you can’t draw? Drawing is a learned, not inherited, skill so everyone is welcome!

Participants in this class will use a variety of media as they explore different means of drawing expression. There will be an emphasis upon building images through observation while in a studio setting. The elements of line and value will be used during the first two days. Day three will be devoted to the basics of perspective, perhaps outdoors, weather permitting.

This class is designed for beginners or those with limited experience. Intermediate level artists can participate in order to advance their skills. All materials will be provided, and some will be available to take home. Participants will be encouraged to take the Introduction to Acrylic Landscape painting class or Linda Berry’s Watercolor class.

Gerry Mann is a retired educator with thirty-one years of teaching experience in the arts and sciences. After seventeen years of instruction in biological, earth, and environmental sciences, he transitioned to the art studio in 2004. In 2007, he earned his Master’s degree from Virginia Commonwealth University in painting and printmaking, and then in 2013 he became a National Board Certified art instructor. During his last fourteen years in the classroom, he taught all levels of secondary art including college-level drawing and design through the College Board’s Advanced Placement program. Landscapes are his favorite subject, and he currently paints when time permits as he works to finish a retirement home in LaPorte.
