The Penn State Extension Master Gardeners of Wyoming County will host a Seed Library Open House on Saturday, January 25, at the Tunkhannock Public Library. Drop-in the Community Room between 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. to learn how the Seed Library works, select native perennial flower seeds to take home, learn best practices for seed starting, and see a demonstration on winter sowing.

The goal of the Seed Library is to provide an opportunity for community members to share seeds, encourage biodiversity, and educate gardeners towards a practice of grow-save-repeat. Patrons can select up to four seed packs per household per visit. The Seed Library contains only heirloom and open-pollinated varieties of native perennial flowers, annual flowers, herbs, and vegetables.

The Master Gardeners invite local gardeners of all experience levels to visit the Seed Library and select seeds, grow them, harvest new seeds from the mature plants, and share back a portion of them for next year’s inventory. After January 25, the Seed Library will be open during the Tunkhannock Public Library’s regular business hours. Native perennial flower seeds will be available on January 25, and varieties of annual flowers, herbs, and vegetables will be added later.

The Tunkhannock Public Library is located at 220 W. Tioga Street, Tunkhannock. For questions about the Seed Library, contact the Master Gardeners at 570-836-3196 or wyomingmg@psu.edu.
