Three women walk on the wooded Summit Loop Trail in Laporte

Bring the kids and have fun with a nature scavenger hunt. Look for shiny rocks, interesting insects, branches longer than your arms, and more. The Summit Loop is one mile long, making it ideal for families with young children (and when little legs get tired, take a rest on one of the benches or chairs).

Stop by the trail between 11 am and 3 pm, pick up a scavenger hunt list, and explore the woods at your leisure.

The Summit Loop Trail is located 0.65 miles from the courthouse in Laporte, heading towards Eagles Mere on SR 42. Look for the driveway entrance on the left and a white banner. Parking is limited, so carpooling is recommended. Leashed dogs are welcome. For more info, visit our website or email

A Walk in Penn’s Woods is a statewide coordinated event organized by the Pennsylvania Forestry Association and held annually on the first Sunday in October. The event encourages people across Pennsylvania to learn how their local woods work, see forests in new ways, and appreciate and love the forests so that we can all care well for them. Learn more about Walk in Penn’s Woods online.
