SUMMARY:Lyrids Meteor Shower at The Summit
DESCRIPTION:Duration: April 15-29 \nPeak: April 22-23 \nOne of the oldest recorded meteor showers\, the Lyrids return each spring as Earth passes through debris from Comet Thatcher. Known for fast\, bright meteors and the occasional fireball\, the Lyrids peak overnight April 22–23\, 2026. The best viewing is from midnight through dawn\, when observers under dark skies may see 10–20 meteors per hour. \nWhile this is not an organized event\, you are welcome to bring a blanket or chair on your own and view the meteor shower at The Summit. \nInformation about the Lyrids can be found here and here.

SUMMARY:Observatory Public Viewing Program
DESCRIPTION:The Keystone College Thomas G. Cupillari ’60 Observatory programs offer an observation of the night sky through the telescopes. The scheduled programs are provided as a community service and are free of charge. No registration required. \nSpring sessions begin on Wednesday\, March 18  from 8–10 p.m. and will continue each Wednesday and Friday evening through May 22. \nFollowing a brief talk which changes weekly\, participants will be able to observe the moon\, planets\, star clusters\, nebulae\, galaxies\, and the Milky Way through telescopes. \nThe sessions will be held outdoors and in unheated buildings and visitors should dress accordingly. The sessions will be held on both cloudy or clear nights and will only be canceled due to severe weather. Visitors should check the weather before traveling to the Observatory. \nGroups: Monday evenings are reserved for groups of 20 or more\, such as school classes\, scouts\, and community organizations. For more information or to make group arrangements\, contact Jo-Ann Kamichitis at 570-945-8402 or email observatory@keystone.edu \nDirections: The Observatory is located at the intersection of Route 107 and Hack Road in Fleetville\, a short distance from the College’s main campus. It is approximately two miles west on Route 107 from Interstate 81 exit 202 and approximately two miles east of Fleetville on Route 107. Once visitors turn onto Hack Road\, the Observatory is almost immediately to the left.
