Vosburg Neck State Park (formerly the Howland Preserve) is a 669-acre park along the scenic Susquehanna River just north of Tunkhannock, the property was named a state park in 2022, but it has long been a local favorite for hiking, paddling, and wildlife watching.
Vosburg Neck State Park is home to about eight miles of hiking trails through pristine meadows and dense woodland. The park also boasts many historic features, such as a eighteenth- and nineteenth-century buildings, rremnants of the old canal system, and a 1700s-era cemetery.
The river is one of the major draws. The park earns its name from the Vosburg Neck, a sweeping oxbow bend in the river. This geographical wonder creates a stunning setting for boating and fishing. A non-motorized boat launch is available. The riverbanks are also a prime spot for wildlife watching with a pair of nesting bald eagles.
