Happy National Travel & Tourism Week! This week, we`re excited to celebrate travel in the PA Endless Mountains! 🌄

According to the most recent study by the Pennsylvania Tourism Office and Tourism Economics, Sullivan and Wyoming counties generated $87.5 million in direct visitor spending in 2024, which included food and beverage, retail, recreation, lodging, and transportation. Tourism also directly supported 642 jobs in Sullivan and Wyoming counties. Thank you to all of the employees and local businesses that welcome visitors to our area and create unforgetable experiences! 👏

To celebrate National Travel and Tourism Week, EMVB will update our year-round displays at the PennDOT welcome centers on Interstate 81 in Great Bend, Interstate 84 in Matamoras, and Route 15 in Tioga. The displays will include new summer travel brochures, promo items, and coloring sheets for kids.

National Travel and Tourism Week is also the perfect time for locals to visit EMVB’s office and discover fun attractions and events in their own backyards. EMVB provides hundreds of free brochures about local attractions, parks, trails, events, and more. The office is located at 5405 SR 6 in Tunkhannock. We`re open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and an outdoor kiosk provides information 24/7.

🚂 Exciting News! 🚂

Union Pacific’s Big Boy No. 4014, the world’s largest operating steam locomotive, will journey to the East Coast for the first time in collaboration with Norfolk Southern, as part of a historic coast-to-coast tour in honor of America’s 250th anniversary.

Big Boy is expected to pass over the Tunkhannock Creek Viaduct (Nicholson Bridge) on Saturday, June 13 at 10:00 a.m. It will also be on display for ticketed viewing at Steamtown National Historic Site.

The Oldest House in Laceyville will be opening for the summer soon! Built in the 1780s, this home believed to be one of the oldest frame dwellings in the Endless Mountains. Today, it is a museum featuring three floors of artifacts, exhibits, and genealogical information.

The 2026 season kicks off on May 8-9 with the Simpler Thyme Plant & Herb Sale. The house will remain open for tours on Saturdays and Sundays from 1:00 to 4:00 through September.
