High Knob Overlook

Located in the Loyalsock State Forest, High Knob Overlook provides one of the most expansive views in the Endless Mountains. From this vista, you can see about 90,000 acres of secluded, peaceful state forestland. On a clear day, visibility can span as far as 20 miles.

Picnic areas provide the perfect spots to soak in the view. High Knob is stunning all year round, but make sure to visit in autumn when the land is blanketed in vibrant fall colors. It’s also a great spot to watch a sunset.

A paved road leads directly to High Knob Overlook. To get there, take Worlds End Road, which connects Eagles Mere and Worlds End State Park. On Worlds End Road, drive about three miles and turn onto High Knob Road, a paved access road marked with brown DCNR signs. Turn right onto Forest Road, and it will lead you to the overlook.

Alternatively, you can take Dry Run Road, an unpaved road that branches off from Route 87 south of Hillsgrove. This route offers a fun side adventure at the roadside waterfall, Dry Run Falls.

You can also hike to High Knob Overlook. From the Hillsgrove side, hikers can approach via the Bridle Trail, High Knob Trail, or Jackson Trail. The Loyalsock Trail also intersects the vista’s access road. Consult a state forest map to plan your route.
