Regional conservation non-profit North Branch Land Trust is a recipient of the 2024-2025 Susquehanna Greenway Partnership Mini Grant.

Through this project and funding from the Susquehanna Greenway, North Branch Land Trust will work with conservation and community partners to create and install contextual watershed educational signage at Hanover Crossings Marsh Sanctuary located in Hanover Township, Luzerne County. The proposed informational graphics will detail wetland habitat and ecosystem processes and benefits that are occurring right in front of the visitor.

The Hanover Crossings Marsh Sanctuary is a publicly accessible preserve open from dawn to dusk. The highlight of the Sanctuary is the large wetland complex that hosts a variety of native plants and animals, providing excellent opportunities for photography and birdwatching. This project will be developed in conjunction with other stewardship activities occurring at the Marsh Sanctuary including the removal of invasive species and planting of native species. North Branch Land Trust looks forward to opportunities for community engagement with the project including volunteer days or simply learning more about their local watershed.

Executive Director Ellen Ferretti says, “Occasions for outdoor recreation abound in Northeastern Pennsylvania. It is important that we all take this as an opportunity to help visitors understand and appreciate ways to interact with our environment by being sensitive to the plant and animal life around them. Hanover Crossings Marsh is an important wetland habitat in an area with high development pressures. Support for passive educational opportunities, like the Susquehanna Greenway Partnership’s support of this wetland signage project, has a large ripple effect on stewardship for the future.”

North Branch Land Trust is a registered 501(c)(3) conservation nonprofit operating in Northeastern Pennsylvania.  NBLT conserves properties in an eight-county region of Pennsylvania (Bradford, Susquehanna, Sullivan, Wayne, Wyoming, Lackawanna, Luzerne, and Columbia) in the Susquehanna and Upper Lehigh Watersheds. North Branch Land Trust partners with landowners, communities, and stakeholders to conserve and care for Northeastern Pennsylvania’s lands and waters. Learn more at nblt.org.

The Susquehanna Greenway is a connected corridor of paddling, walking, and biking trails, boat launches, conserved lands, and communities that runs along the Susquehanna River in Pennsylvania. The Susquehanna Greenway Partnership (SGP) is a 501(c)3 non-profit dedicated to advancing the vision of the Susquehanna Greenway. SGP works with partners to grow the network, inspire people to engage with the outdoors, and transform communities into places where people want to live, work, and explore.

The Susquehanna Greenway Mini-Grant Program is financed by a grant from the Community Conservation Partnership Program, under the administration of the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation & Natural Resources (DCNR), Bureau of Recreation and Conservation.
