Join storyteller Deborah Pieri and musician Rick Lawrence as they share intertwined stories and songs that fill the space with deep feeling, humor and grace. Deborah’s stories and Rick’s songs will be arranged around common themes, such as the Civil War, ghosts, family, and young love.
Come to the potluck early as Rick will entertain us with his music during the dinner hour.
Deborah Pieri, an elementary school teacher, accidentally discovered the art of storytelling in 1981 and first used it in the classroom. She went on to get a Master of Art in Oral Tradition. She has been actively participating in adult storytelling programs, many with holiday themes in the greater Philadelphia area for over 40 years. She is the recipient of an Outstanding Lifetime Educator Award, grants from NEA and NSA, and was a Horace Mann Lincoln Fellow.
Rick Lawrence, a guitarist and songwriter, plays a sampling of Americana and Classics from the 60’s through the present. Currently he is working on original material in his retirement. A Chester County, PA, native, he plays in small venues, such as restaurants, tap rooms and private parties most weekends in that area. He actively supports the local open mic scene.
All are welcome to Brain/Food, where discussions of fiction, poetry and films and lectures will take place on Thursday evenings at 7 PM at the DeWire Center unless noted otherwise. Brain/Food events are free, but we hope you will show your support by becoming a member or making a donation. There will be a Potluck supper preceding each evening’s program beginning at 6 PM.
