July 6 @ 9:00 am – July 8 @ 12:00 pm

Class Limited to 12 participants

$150 per person, supplies purchased by student

Ages 18+

This beginner-friendly 3-session watercolor course (July 6, 7, 8) introduces the essential tools, techniques, and principles of watercolor painting through still life, landscape, and portrait studies. Students will learn how watercolor behaves on wet and dry paper, how to control water and pigment, and how to plan a painting in a medium that allows limited corrections.

Through clear, step-by-step demonstrations, students will practice basic drawing, composition, value, color mixing, and brushwork. Emphasis is placed on learning how to work with watercolor’s natural flow—encouraging expressive effects while maintaining structure and clarity. This balance between control and spontaneity is a key feature of watercolor and can be seen in the work of artists such as John Singer Sargent, Winslow Homer, and Anders Zorn.

Class projects include still life setups, landscape studies from reference photos, and introductory portrait work. The goal is to help students gain confidence, understand the medium, and produce strong, lively paintings. After the final  class you are invited to join Joan Becker’s watercolor class for a brown bag lunch and to enjoy each other’s painting experiences.

All levels are welcome. Material supply list will be provided upon registration.
