Gather and grow with fellow plant enthusiasts and the Penn State Extension Master Gardeners of Wyoming County for a free Community Plant and Seed Swap on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at the Dietrich Theater in Tunkhannock. The event offers an opportunity for gardeners of all experience levels to share seeds and swap houseplants and is open 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. At 10:30 a.m., the Master Gardeners will present a program on “Tips for Healthy Houseplants.”
How does it work? Bring unused, viable garden seeds or houseplants to share. Vegetable, herb, and flower seeds, either commercially purchased or saved from the garden, are welcome at the swap tables (please, no seeds saved from hybrids as these are unlikely to grow true-to-type). Houseplants should be pest and disease-free. The Master Gardeners will provide base stock for the swap tables at 10:00 a.m. with unique and favorite varieties.
How much to share? Attendees are invited to share what they can and take what they need.
How to package and label? Bring seeds already portioned for sharing. Small zip-top bags and coin-sized envelopes work well for swapping seeds. The Master Gardeners will have a supply of envelopes on hand. Clearly label with as much information as possible, including the common name and variety and scientific name (genus and species). Houseplants should be clearly labeled and in a pot or recycled container (please, no unpotted root balls).
The event takes place at the Dietrich Theater, 60 E. Tioga St, Tunkhannock. Master Gardener volunteers will be available to answer home gardening questions and diagnose problems with houseplants. The event is offered free of charge. For questions about swapping seeds or houseplants, contact the Master Gardeners at 570-836-3196 or wyomingmg@psu.edu.
