Rebecca creates digital collages in Photoshop, as well as 3D collages using vintage and “aged” materials. She prints photos onto silk, transparencies, and iron-on papers and transfers them to glass, mirrors, and a variety of fabrics and papers. Rebecca will demonstrate various transfer methods, how to decide which photo transfer process works best to create a variety of effects, and layering/finishing techniques. During this workshop, each student will combine photographs and transfer methods to create four or more mixed-media collages, using a variety of methods.
Participants can use photos transferred onto silk, transparencies, tissue/rice paper, iron-on paper to create collages. You can explore encaustic wax, iron on/sewing techniques, and various adhesives to create a variety of styles with collage. Students will be able to alter materials to create their vision and leave with inspiration and materials to complete more collages at home.

About Rebecca Carpenter
Rebecca (Becky) is a photographer and mixed-media collage artist. She taught art K-12th grade for many years until she decided to create art full-time. She’s been a serious photographer for over 15 years, but Becky has had a camera and paintbrushes in her hands since childhood. She’s been a painter and collage artist for many decades and began combining those two loves to create mixed-media collages using her photographs. She creates digital collages with her textures and photographs as well as physical collages using a variety of methods and substrates.
Becky and her husband love to travel, kayak, bike, ski, and hike. They’ve lived in 8 states and moved to PA about 5 years ago. Having traveled to all 50 states and several countries, they enjoy being in rural PA, close to their daughter in Philly. Becky’s camera is always with her and her inspirations around her often end up in a photograph, painting, or collage.
