Class limited to 12
$50, bring a journal, pens, pencils etc.
Ages 16+

Interested in starting a journaling practice? This workshop will provide multiple entry points into your personal writing practice. There is no one way to journal, but we will help you get started with writing prompts, ways to bring drawing, sketching, mark making, and collage into your journals and supporting you as you develop a consistent writing method that fits your needs and aspirations. This is your own personal practice, no need to read anything aloud. We’ll reflect on the experience of writing and what methods work best for you.

Participants should bring a blank book and favorite pens or pencils. Optional: personal paper items to incorporate in your journal, scissors, markers, colored pencils. Those who have taken the collage class may want to incorporate items made in that class into their personal journals.

Sarah Patterson is a graphic designer and maker with an MFA from Vermont College of Fine Arts. She traveled the world before settling in central Pennsylvania. This landscape has seeped into her work which involves themes of the natural world, mother/daughterhood, archiving, memory, and handwriting. Her current project is a drawing group on WhatsApp and is how she keeps in touch with her daughter in Nepal – sending her a drawing every day as an act of connection. Being in touch without words. Her favorite mediums include collage, drawing, and myriad analog methods of mark making. Learn more at sarahkimpatterson.com
