Grovedale Winery won a double gold medal and the best in show award for their Optimism Sunrise during the 2024 American Wine Society Competition. The competition took place on October 30 – 31, 2024, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

“Sunrise is a fun and playful rosé that stands out among other rosés with a popping strawberry note,” said Nadia Hetzel, winemaker at Grovedale Winery. “The balance of acidity and sweetness is key, as is getting the aromatic blend of hybrids dialed in just right.”

Sunrise competed against hundreds of entries from commercial wineries across the country. It scored a 93 out of 100 to win the double gold in the hybrid class. The wine proceeded to win the best in show honors.

“We are thrilled that the highly prestigious American Wine Society gave it double gold and best in show in its category. Everyone involved in some capacity in the wine industry recognizes the importance of the AWS. We are very team oriented here at Grovedale so this is a wonderful validation for everyone’s hard work,” said Hetzel.

Grovedale also won a silver medal for their Generations Unoaked Chardonnay and a bronze medal for their Generations Bubbly Gruener Veltliner.

Grovedale Winery is located at 71 Grovedale Lane in Wyalusing. Tasting room hours are Tuesday through Thursday noon to 6 p.m., Friday noon to 7 p.m., and Saturday through Sunday noon to 6 p.m. To learn more, visit their website at grovedalewinery.com or follow them on Facebook and Instagram.
