The Dietrich Theater in downtown Tunkhannock is the place to be on October 3. With two free movies, an art reception, and the Fall Film Festival still underway, the day offers something for everyone.
At 11 a.m. on October 3, the Dietrich Theater will present a free showing of Still: A Michael J. Fox Movie to raise awareness for Parkinson’s disease. George Stonier, who has been navigating his own Parkinson’s journey for 13 years, will introduce the film and host a Q&A following the feature. Still: A Michael J. Fox Movie is a 2023 documentary that blends interviews, archival footage, and cinematic reenactments to trace Michael J. Fox’s rise to fame and his decades‑long experience living with Parkinson’s. It is an intimate, often funny, and deeply moving portrait of both his public career and private resilience, highlighting the optimism that continues to define him.
Afterward, from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. in the Dietrich Theater’s Dorothy G. Sheldon Art Studio, the theater will host the Making Our Mark Art Exhibit Reception, showcasing the creative work of Beacon Specialized Living. Admission to the reception is free, and light refreshments will be provided. Making Our Mark is a celebration of creativity, individuality, and self‑expression, featuring original artwork by the talented artists of Beacon Specialized Living. Through painting, drawing, sculpture, and pottery, each artist shares a unique perspective and creative voice. Every piece tells a story, not only through color, texture, shape, and form, but through the personal vision and imagination of the person who created it. This exhibition highlights the many ways art can be expressed, experienced, and understood. These artists are making more than art; they’re making their mark.
To round out the day, the Dietrich Theater will celebrate its 25th anniversary with a free showing of The Last Picture Shows at 5:00 p.m. Admission, small popcorn, and small sodas are all free. Before this documentary, which explores the history of cinemas and their role in community life, audience members will hear the remarkable story of the Dietrich Theater and how a determined community brought it back to life, helping it thrive as a beloved cultural landmark in downtown Tunkhannock for the past 25 years.
