Press Release Submitted by Mary Turner

The NEPA Philharmonic will return to the Dietrich Theater for the second time this year on Saturday, November 14, at 11 a.m. with its enchanting family program, (CANDLE)LIT Once Upon an Orchestra. This special event is free to attend thanks to the generous sponsorship of the Overlook Estate Foundation.

Designed for children ages 2-6 and their families, (CANDLE)LIT Once Upon an Orchestra introduces young audiences to the beauty of classical music through storytelling and live orchestral accompaniment. Surrounded by the warm glow of flameless candles, families will enjoy an immersive experience that sparks curiosity, creativity, and a lifelong appreciation for the arts.

Founded in 1972 through the merger of two existing local philharmonics in Wilkes-Barre and Scranton, the NEPA Philharmonic creates transformative orchestral and artistic experiences that enrich well-being, inspire creativity, and strengthen the economic vitality of Northeastern Pennsylvania. Under the direction of Music Director Mélisse Brunet, the Philharmonic features top professional musicians from across Northeastern Pennsylvania and the mid-Atlantic region. The orchestra presents a wide variety of performances, including pops, classical, holiday, candlelit, and 360° concerts, as well as its popular Savor the Sounds series, reaching audiences from Scranton and Wilkes-Barre to Honesdale, Tunkhannock, Clarks Summit, and Hazleton.

This performance will also feature students from the NEPA Philharmonic’s mentoring program, who will participate in bringing the stories to life through narrated readings accompanied by live music. The combination of storytelling and orchestral performance creates a unique and engaging experience for young children and their families.

The Dietrich Theater is excited to bring the NEPA Philharmonic and Once Upon an Orchestra to Tunkhannock and invite families to discover the magic of music and storytelling together.

Tickets are free and available at the door or by calling the Dietrich Theater at 570-836-1022×3.
