The grant program is funded through the hotel occupancy tax, a state-mandated tax that is collected by lodging establishments and paid by their guests. Thirty percent of the tax goes into the room tax grant fund, while the rest is used by EMVB to promote tourism and market the region. EMVB has awarded over $2.6 million in grants since the program began in 2004.
Each county has a room tax committee consisting of community members and at least one county commissioner. The committee makes the final decision of awarding the money, while EMVB oversees the grant program and distributes the funds.
Application for the 2026 grant round will be available on www.endlessmountains.org/media in June. The application deadline will be September 25, 2026. The program is open to any nonprofit organization or branch of local or county government in Sullivan or Wyoming counties.
