Press Release Submitted by Mary Turner
There’s a lot happening at the Dietrich Theater in downtown Tunkhannock during the first full weekend of November and into the following week. From cookie decorating and a free documentary with a Q&A to a chamber music concert and a free Veterans Day movie, the Dietrich is the place to be this November.

First up, on Friday, November 6, from 7 to 9 p.m., Sacha Hoff, owner of Cookies That Care, will lead an apple-themed cookie decorating class, perfectly timed for the heart of apple-picking season. Sacha will guide participants through a hands-on workshop featuring step-by-step techniques for decorating delicious autumn-inspired cookies. No experience is necessary. Participants will take home eight beautifully decorated cookies, new decorating skills, and recipes to share with family and friends. Registration is required, and the cost is $55. To register, call 570-836-1022×3.

The next day, Saturday, November 7, the Penn State Master Gardeners will present a free screening of the documentary The Extraordinary Caterpillar, followed by a Q&A session. Caterpillars are truly remarkable creatures. In fact, more than 98% of the living world on Earth is smaller than a bee, yet humans often view the planet through a human-centered lens. As landscapes are reshaped to meet human needs, the natural systems that sustain life are frequently overlooked. The Extraordinary Caterpillar follows scientists and community activists as they explore the dazzling world of nature’s tiniest superheroes and the vital role they play in local ecosystems.

Then, on Sunday, November 8, audiences can enjoy an afternoon of free chamber music when Quartet137 presents Boundless. The program features music by Myroslav Skoryk, Florence Price, Erwin Schulhoff, Rebecca Clarke, and Aleksandra Vrebalov. Their five works bring together strikingly different musical styles, histories, and perspectives in a program that reaches from the overlooked to the unexpected. Performers include Gabriel Schaff and Leah Valenches on violin, Chris Souza on viola, and Peter Brubaker on cello. The concert begins at 3 p.m. and is sponsored in memory of Joan Daniels.

And last but certainly not least, the Dietrich Theater will celebrate Veterans Day with a free showings of Megan Leavey on Wednesday, November 11. The public is invited to attend one of two screenings, at 1 p.m. or 7 p.m. Guests will receive a free small popcorn and small soda. Sponsored by the Robert H. Spitz Foundation and M&T Bank, this inspiring biographical drama tells the true story of Marine Corporal Megan Leavey and her extraordinary bond with her military working dog, Rex. The film follows Megan as she enlists in the Marines to escape a difficult home life, discovers her purpose in the K-9 unit, and becomes Rex’s handler. Together, they deploy to Iraq, where their skill in detecting explosives helps save countless lives. After both are injured by an IED, Megan returns home and begins a determined effort to adopt Rex and give him the peaceful life he deserves.
With opportunities to learn new skills, connect with nature, experience world-class music, and honor veterans, the first half of November offers something for everyone at the Dietrich Theater. For more information about these events and programs or for tickets, call 570-836-1022×3 or visit the Dietrich Theater.
