A new year means exciting new adventures in the Endless Mountains! From brand-new businesses to longtime favorites, explore what’s opened, expanded, and changed within the past year.

 

The Drift Mine Mountain Bike Trail opened within the Loyalsock State Forest, just a few miles from Worlds End State Park. The loop-on-loop network features single-track trails of various difficulty. Parking is available on Coal Mine Road.

 

The David A. DeWire Center, home of the Eagles Mere Friends of the Arts

The Eagles Mere Friends of the Arts will celebrate their 50th anniversary in summer 2025 with an exciting lineup of concerts, theatre, art classes, and more.

The Endless Mountains 430 & 250 Challenges debuted in September 2024 as Pennsylvania’s first-ever self-supported gravel bikepacking race. The full 430-mile route featured a challenging 41,621 feet of elevation, while the 250-mile option still packed a punch with 24,589 feet. The next race is set for September 20, 2025.

Feick’s Vintage Finds opened a seasonal shop at the Eagles Mere Historic Village. You can also visit their stores in Meshoppen and Muncy.

Two local businesses won big at the American Wine Society Competition in fall 2024. Grovedale Winery won a double gold medal and the best in show award for their Optimism Sunrise, as well as a silver medal for their Generations Unoaked Chardonnay and bronze for their Generations Bubbly Gruener Veltliner. Deep Roots Hard Cider received a double gold for their Honey Pommeau, a silver for Troublemaker, and bronze for Elder and Colonial Roots.

 

The Little Book Place in Tunkhannock, PA

The Little Book Place, a woman-owned independent bookstore, opened on Bridge Street in Tunkhannock.

Loyalsock Foundation continues to make progress towards building The Summit: Center for Wellness in Laporte. The permanent driveway has been installed, setting the stage for future building projects. The Summit Loop Trail will reopen with a new parking area in 2025.

 

The Metcalf Mansion in Tunkhannock, PA

After years of vacancy, the Metcalf Mansion in Tunkhannock is being restored and preserved. This Queen Anne-style mansion was originally built in 1895 as one of the grandest homes in town.

The town of Nicholson, home of the Tunkhannock Creek Viaduct, will honor its 150th anniversary in 2025. There will be events throughout the year, all leading up to a major celebration on the weekend of August 22 – 24, 2025.

Susquehanna Kayak & Canoe Rentals opened a third location at Lackawanna State Park. They also operate their main shop in Falls and the boat rental at Frances Slocum State Park.

Rocky Valley Campground, located just two and a half miles from Worlds End State Park, is completely renovated and will offer overnight and seasonal campsites, tent camping, and cabin rentals.

 

The Greens at Shadowbrook in Tunkhannock, PA

The Greens at Shadowbrook is opening an active 55+ community in Tunkhannock. The golf course and new restaurant, The Player’s Pub, are already open to the public.

The Tunkhannock Police Memorial Statue now stands near the entrance of Riverside Park. The statue is dedicated to State Trooper Joshua Miller, who served as a police officer in Tunkhannock in his early career. In 2009, he died in a gunfight while rescuing an abducted child.

Unwind Café & Market in Tunkhannock has started roasting their own coffee in-house.
