Fireworks, parades, and picnics are all part of the fun on Independence Day. But most of all, the Fourth is a day to reflect on our country’s freedom, especially as we honor America’s 250th anniversary. Get in the patriotic spirit with these upcoming events.

 

DAR America 250 Exhibit
June 1 – July 31, 2026

The Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) have created a historic exhibit at the Dietrich Theater in honor of America’s semiquincentennial  Visit the gallery in the lobby during regular movie hours to learn about the Revolutionary Patriots and their ties to Wyoming County.

1776 – America 250 Movie Showing
June 24, 2026

The Dietrich Theater in Tunkhannock will host two free showings of the musical 1776. Sponsored by the Wyoming County Commissioners, this event includes free admission, free popcorn, and a small soda.

Founders Day & America’s 250th Birthday at The Metcalf Mansion
June 27, 2026

The Metcalf Mansion in Tunkhannock is hosting free, self-guided tours in honor of America’s 250th anniversary and Founders Day. Discover the historic 1895 mansion, which is currently being restored, and enjoy special birthday-themed refreshments, door prizes, raffles, and more.

July 4, 1776 – Breaking News: Independence Is Declared!
June 27, 2026

When the Declaration of Independence was printed and distributed throughout the colonies, it took weeks for word to spread. Learn how local women learned the news through this special presentation by the Daughters of the American Revolution. Held at the Dietrich Theater, the DAR will play the roles of the wives of the 24th Connecticut Militia Regiment of the Wyoming Valley.

Salt Springs Celebration
July 27, 2026

The Friends of Salt Springs Park are kicking off Independence Day early with their annual festival. Visit the park for a white elephant sale, a quilt show and auction, homemade pie sale, live music, local vendors, a plant sale, a 50/50 raffle, and more.

St. Basil’s Annual Picnic and Fireworks Show
July 27-28, 2026

IHM Parish is celebrating their annual picnic on the hill behind St. Basil’s Church in Dushore. Don’t miss fun for all ages, including raffles, theme baskets, music, games, and more. There will also be plenty of food, including homemade pies and the Knights of Columbus chicken barbecue. A special fireworks show will be held on Saturday, June 27 at 9:30 p.m.

Living History Presentation: Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address
July 1, 2026

Gather at the Sullivan County Courthouse as Michael Kinney portrays Abraham Lincoln and delivers several of his iconic speeches. This event, sponsored by the Sullivan County Library, is free and open to the public.

Rooftop Music & Fireworks
July 2, 2026

Hotel Anthracite is getting the party started with live music by the Jeffrey James Band. Later that evening, the rooftop will be the perfect place to view the Carbondale fireworks. Food and drinks will be available for purchase.

Red, White, and Blue Paddle with Deep Roots
July 3, 2026

Endless Mountain Outfitters is hosting a patriotic kayaking trip on the Susquehanna River. Take a five-mile paddle down the river, then enjoy tastings at Deep Roots Hard Cider, located just a few minutes away. Kayak rentals are available.

Tunkhannock Rotary Fireworks
July 3, 2026

Sit back and enjoy the fireworks at the Tunkhannock High School football stadium. Popstar Drive will perform live music before the show, and the senior class will sell food and drinks at the concession stand. Admission is free, but donations are greatly appreciated. The rain date is July 5.

July 4, 2026

The FWM Volunteer Fire Company presents a day of family fun. Watch the parade in the morning, then enjoy chicken dinners, basket raffles, music, and more at the fire station. The day ends with fireworks at dusk.

Eagles Mere Inn Fourth of July Celebration
July 4, 2026

Eagles Mere Inn is celebrating America’s 250th all day long, beginning with a Bloody Mary and mimosa bar in the morning. Throughout the day, there will be live music, a picnic buffet, yard games, and more. Make sure the see the Sullivan County semiquincentennial bell on the front porch while you’re there. The evening ends with community fireworks at the Amphitheater.

July 4, 2026

The Repasz Band has performed in Eagles Mere for the Fourth of July for over 20 years. Spread out a blanket or chairs on Village Green as the band plays patriotic songs, Broadway classics, and more. This free event is presented by the Eagles Mere Friends of the Arts.
