Wyoming County Historical Society

The Wyoming County Historical Society is a nonprofit organization that preserves our local heritage. Their museum and research library is located at the historic Harrison Street School in Tunkhannock.

The museum houses artifacts that tell the county’s story. A collection of Native American artifacts provides insight on the region’s first inhabitants, while tannery equipment reflects Tunkhannock’s industrial past. The Military Room features uniforms, photos, and equipment dating as far back as Sullivan’s March and the American Revolution. The School Room gives visitors a glimpse at life in a one-room schoolhouse and showcases many vintage photos and toys. Other exhibits display antique clothing, musical instruments, tools, medical equipment, furniture, and more.

The society’s library holds numerous resources for genealogical and historic research. Their collection of holdings includes cemetery listings, census data, vital records, obituary files, newspaper abstracts, and more.

Hours vary by season. Please call ahead to confirm.
